The Story of 'The Largest Snack Seller'
Haldiram's invented the bhujia we know today. It’s a story of conviction that turned a small shop into a billion-dollar entity.
The year is 1920.
There is a 12-year old boy in Bikaner named Ganga Bhishan Agarwal has started to develop an interest in making bhujia from his beloved bua.
Within a mere 20 days, he is an expert and has started to experiment with the taste and texture of the unique product. Customers are loving this thin, crispy and flavoured product that the young boy is selling at a premium price.
But while he is envisioning to give his brand a royal feeling, his family is crippling. After being separated from them, he is left with no money. But with some financial help from a friend and his own unrelenting passion, Haldiram builds his business back up.
This iconic bhujia maker, which now sells a range of desi snacks, has grown from a small shop into a vast empire while surviving disputes and break-ups in the original family business.
We’re thrilled to launch the first episode of our podcast with the Haldiram’s story.
Trust us when we say that it is not an average business story - it’s full of family drama with court cases, jealousy-fueled regional expansion, a decades-old trademark battle and a closely guarded family secret of the famous bhujia.
We promise it’s binge-worthy (and highly entertaining!)
Happy Listening!
